Springtime Lovin’

An ocean breeze
Winds ruffling through the trees
A lark chirps happily
A mourning dove coos
It’s springtime lovin’
A new day dawns
The old has gone, the new has come

Winter comes, winter goes
Spring is here, a season of plenty
The song of beauty
A time for growth, a time for renewal
A time of change, a time of transition

It comes on slowly, taking a second to test the waters
“Too cold,” it says, it’s not yet time
It’s only February
Here for a day or two
But gone quickly
“I’ll give you a taste, but it’s not my time”
“I’ll be back soon, but not now”

March comes, March goes
Spring is here for longer, but not to stay
“It’s not yet time,” it says once again
“I’ll be here for a bit, but I’ll be gone before you know it”
“I can’t stay, they won’t let me”
“But I’ll try”

April comes, “I’m here to stay”
Springtime lovin’
It’s a happy foray
Bird song echoes through the trees
Buds bloom, leaves grow
A season ready for renewal, ready for re-growth

A cleansing of the mind
A cleansing of the soul
It’s springtime lovin’
A new man, a new creation
Rested and restored
Alive and well
I overflow with abundance
I am filled with love, to receive and to give
I give unto thee as spring gave unto me

Dust & Bones

In the womb we were formed
As dust and bone we began
We were brought to life uninformed
A blank slate, an empty soul

As children we ran and ran and ran
Not a care in the world, free as a bird
No leash reining us in
Free to be who we wanted to be

As dust and bone we began
Breathed to life by the gentlest puff
As dust we return, to the earth that gave us birth

Dust and bones will fade away
But memories will remain
Our bodies are only temporary
To the earth we must return

We began as nothing, we leave as nothing
That’s the way of the world
Things will come, things will go
The world continues to turn

When the time comes we must answer the call
The call of nature, the call of death
The call of rot, the call of decay
Dust and bone will we return
All things fade away

Mother Nature is unstoppable
A force we must obey
Death will come to us some day

We must relinquish, must let go
Allow nature to run its course
As dust and bone we began
As dust and bone we end

Welcome back to the earth
Dust and bone will fade away
But memories will remain
To the earth we return
Ready it for rebirth

The Call of the Wild

I hear them calling out to me
I see them waving me on
Beckoning me, summoning me towards
It’s the call of the wild
It’s pulling me forward

I hear them, I see them
But I hesitate to answer the call
I’ve been tainted with the mark
The mark of the wild, the mark of the feral
Am I man or am I animal?

I hear them calling out to me
Drawing me close
They’re summoning me as if I’m one of their own
Part of the den, part of the brood
“One of us, one of us,” they chant
Am I animal or am I man?

It’s the call of the wild
On my own, in a world of my own creation
I am hermit in my natural habitat
On my own, I’ve been so alone
On my own, on my own
Am I man or am I animal?

“One of us, one of us,” they chant
“No,” I yell back. “No. Not one of you. I’m my own.”
I’m my own, but oh so alone
I hear them calling out to me
I see them waving me on
Beckoning me, summoning me towards
It’s the call of the wild
Am I animal or am I man?

A hermit in his natural habitat
On my own and oh so alone
“One of us, one of us,” they chant
“Come to us, come to us,” they summon
I’m my own, I’m my own
I’m my own but oh so alone

“One of us, one of us,” they chant
It’s the mark of the wild, the mark of the feral
Human no longer
Animal, beast, monster
I’ve become one of them
I’m right where I belong
