Sad Boy

Isolated and alone I sat
On my lonesome I was
An outcast—to no one I belonged
No one to claim me as their own

In my silence I was raging
In my mind I was misunderstood
In my heart I was hurting
So desperately alone

Each new day brought on more hardship
Something I didn’t know how to handle
No one ever told me it would be this hard
No one ever told me growing up would hurt this much

I was just a sad boy
Didn’t know where I could find my peace
Just a sad boy trying to find some meaning
Trying to find someone who would accept me for me

An outcast on my own
A sad boy desperately alone
Isolated and misunderstood
Lost and looking for meaning

No one ever told me it would be this hard
No on ever told me that growing up would be this way
I thought that a better life would come another day
But the more I learned, the harder it seemed

The older I got, the more I hurt
The more I hurt, the more I spiraled
The more I spiraled, the more alone I felt
Alone and on my own

A sad boy with nothing to gain
And nothing to lose
A sad boy who wasn’t alone
So many others hurting and crying
So many others feeling the weight of the world
We might be isolated, but we are not alone
We might be misunderstood, but it doesn’t mean we’re not loved

No longer a sad boy
No longer an outcast
No longer a sad boy
No longer unloved

Dust & Bones

In the womb we were formed
As dust and bone we began
We were brought to life uninformed
A blank slate, an empty soul

As children we ran and ran and ran
Not a care in the world, free as a bird
No leash reining us in
Free to be who we wanted to be

As dust and bone we began
Breathed to life by the gentlest puff
As dust we return, to the earth that gave us birth

Dust and bones will fade away
But memories will remain
Our bodies are only temporary
To the earth we must return

We began as nothing, we leave as nothing
That’s the way of the world
Things will come, things will go
The world continues to turn

When the time comes we must answer the call
The call of nature, the call of death
The call of rot, the call of decay
Dust and bone will we return
All things fade away

Mother Nature is unstoppable
A force we must obey
Death will come to us some day

We must relinquish, must let go
Allow nature to run its course
As dust and bone we began
As dust and bone we end

Welcome back to the earth
Dust and bone will fade away
But memories will remain
To the earth we return
Ready it for rebirth

Cruel World

The world is unkind, cruel, and unfair
Your best efforts don’t always get the recognition you deserve
You try your best, you give your all
But some people put a foot out, hoping that you’ll fall

Life is hard to navigate
There are villains around every corner
Some smile at you and act kind, waiting for you to stagger
They stand in wait behind you, waiting to plunge the dagger

Who is for you? Who is against? It’s hard to say
It’s easy to be cynical, there’s little hope for humanity
You ask and pray for support, but it’s not always forthcoming
Lack of encouragement is near enough to drive us to insanity

It’s a cruel, cruel world, hard to navigate
Full of pitfalls, full of vipers
It’s hard to find those you can rely on
It’s hard to be trusting, it’s hard to be open
It’s hard to be honest, it’s hard to be vulnerable

Through trials and tribulations not everyone is there
When the going gets tough some are quick to abandon
They turn tail, run, and hide
Nowhere to be found when you need them the most
The ones you thought you could trust hurt you the most

Sometimes it’s easy to wonder should I even try?
Sometimes it’s easy to question am I doing right?
Am I on the right path?
Am I ambitious enough? Am I too much?
Do they like me? Do they hate me?
It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter

Your self-worth comes from yourself
Not anybody else, not anything else
The world is unkind, cruel, and unfair
Full of miscreants and offenders

Drown out the noise
Ignore the foul thoughts
You are your own superhero
No one knows you better than you know yourself
You’re built for this, meant for more

What’s a little adversity?
A stepping stone to make you stronger
A lesson on your path
Not an obstacle, not a wall
Nothing you can’t handle

The world is unkind, cruel, and unfair
But you were meant for more than this
You will overcome
You are strong
Greatness awaits

Play the Victim

It’s hard to take accountability
To hold yourself responsible
But life is tough
A constant challenge
It takes effort to be strong
But you’re better in the end

It’s a daily battle
Always fighting, never giving up
The greats endure, the greats fight on
When the going gets tough they buckle down
They strap in, they go to war

Strong of mind, strong of spirit, strong of heart, strong of body
Sometimes you want to play the victim
Sometimes you want to shift the blame
The truth hurts, it’s hard to hear
But you don’t get better
You don’t get stronger (without it)

You need to be realistic
The truth may hurt, but you need to bear it
You can’t run your whole life
You can’t hide from your insecurities
You have to pay the piper
He will come calling

How you respond is up to you
Do you continue to run?
Do you keep playing the victim?
Life is tough, that’s the truth
The strong survive, the weak wither

Play the victim, shift the blame
It serves no purpose, it leaves you weak
The world is short on sympathy
And rightfully so
We’re all trying to figure it out
There’s no room for pity
When there’s so much room for growth

Build and encourage
Advise and support
Positive energy is infectious
Take control, better is within reach
Stop playing the victim
Stop feeling sorry for yourself
Pity is toxic, brooding is dangerous
The world is wide open in front of you
Stop playing the victim, take control

Animals

Who’s the animal? Me or him?
Who’s the monster? You or me?
We’re all just animals, living on instinct
Looking for better, trying to do more
We don’t know what we’re doing
No man can see the future
We’re figuring it out as we go along
Trial and error, testing things out

But we’re all animals in the end
Living on instinct, using our intuition
We’re better now than we were before
But we don’t know, we only think
Life has no instructions
Working, doing, thinking, being
We’re better for it, but there are no certainties

Time moves as it does
The sun continues to rise
Life goes on
Nature wills as Nature may
We’re all just animals in the end
Doing what we think is right
Doing as we see fit

We think we know, but we don’t know
We think we’re wise, but what if we’re not?
We think we’re better (than animals), but are we?
Still subject to Nature’s whims
No man can outrun death
No man can cheat the reaper
We’re born to die
We work to live, we live to work
Nature wins every time
We’re born, we live, we work, we die

We’re no different than animals in the end
Living on instinct and intuition
An animal am I
An animal is he
An animal are you
Just animals, we’re all just animals in the end
